| 1940 SEASON REVIEW |
The Reds had a very dissapointing 1940 season finishing 69-85 and 25
games back in their division. The Reds had very few bright spots on
their team as most people performed below expectations. The two players who
led the Reds team were first baseman Dolph Camilli who hit .279 with 23 home runs
and 103 RBI and right fielder Wally Judnich who hit .293 with 22 home
runs and 109 RBI. The Reds pitching staff had no real stars as no one
except closer Alex Carrasquel was able to finish the season with a sub-4.00 ERA.
The Reds outlook for the 1941 season really hasn't improved much from the previous year. The
Reds were unable to pick up anyone during free agency and had a dissapointing draft led by
pitcher Tex Hughson. The Reds still have pitching problems and haven't improved their hitting either.
With the improvements the Cubs made during the offseason the Reds
have a good chance of finishing at the bottom of the league.
